Department of Entrepreneurship Management Technology

The establishment of the Department of Entrepreneurship Management Technology pioneered and initiated by the immediate past Acting Dean of the School, Prof. Z.O. Opafunso was approved by Senate on 1st September, 2011. In November of 2011, Dr. V.O. Asekunowo was appointed the pioneer Acting Head of the new Department. On 17th May, 2012, a Resource Verification Team from the National Universities Commission (NUC) visited the Department to determine if it could mount a B.Tech. programme in Entrepreneurship. The NUC, by a letter referenced NUC/ES/332/Vol.16/203 and dated 2nd July, 2012 informed the University that the outcome of the NUC Resource Verification was positive i.e. the Entrepreneurship Management Technology Department was given a go-ahead to run the B. Tech. programme in Entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship Building

The construction of Entrepreneurship Building for SMAT has been completed and occupied by staff and students. It would be recalled that the Federal Government released funds to each Federal University to construct the building. It has the following facilities: 2 workshops, 2 lecture rooms 8, offices, 3 professorial offices and Convenience.

Department of Project Management Technology

The Department of Project Management Technology was the first Department in the School of Management Technology to stand as a distinct Department with clearly defined curricula. The curricula in the Department are packaged to provide the essential knowledge required and prepare students to be effective resource mobilizers, and users as well as astute project managers with the orientation of achieving best project planning and implementation programmes at the higher level of cost efficiency. Poor project management accounts for the low level of development in Nigeria. The problem is partly that of inadequacy of knowledge.

The Department of Project Management Technology therefore prepares students to take up, on graduation the challenge of nation building through efficient project management practice.

Department of Transport Management Technology

The Department of Transport Management Technology was established in 2009 to align with the trend in global knowledge improvement particularly in the academia and to complement the efforts of the School in providing the Human resources required to effectively manage the National economy, especially the transportation sub-sector.

Postgraduate Programmes

The postgraduate programmes of the School was approved by Senate at its 232nd Meeting held on Wednesday, 31st October, 2012. The programmes are:

1) Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Project Management Technology & Transport Management Technology

2) M. Tech. & Ph.D in Management Science

3) M.Tech & Ph.D in Project Management

4) M.Tech. & Ph.D in Transport Management

School Annual Lecture/Award of Excellence Ceremony

SMAT had her 1st Annual Lecture and award ceremony on July 12th 2012. Six eminent Nigerian and one Ghanaian received Excellence awards in Management. The second Annual Lecture of the School was held on 27th May, 2014. The lecture titled: “The Role of renewable Energy for Economic Development in Nigeria” was delivered by Prof. A.S. Sambo, Senior Special Assistant to the President Federal Republic of Nigeria on Energy Matters.

Endowment/IGR by SMAT in 2011/2012 Session

The University encouraged every School to embark on endowment drive and the School has keyed into that vision. The staff and students of the School are included in the drive through individual contributions and private individuals are also involved.
